CHS 246 - Spring 2020
Contemporary Issues of the Chicana (CHS 246), at California State University Northridge, is a course that utilizes a sociological framework for understanding the experiences of Mexican American, Latin American, and Chicana women in the United States. We explore and analyze different issues, such as sexism in families, the workplace, and the community, stereotypes of lesbian women, and the heterogeneity in ethnic/racial and gender identity.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, CHS 246 decided to focus, analyze, and expand on certain themes that related the coursework, current events, and our own personal thoughts and experiences with the stay at home orders.
For week 14, the theme of our discussion board was political Latinx music. In this section, students made a connection between the art of sound, storytelling, poetry to the social struggles of today.
This list is significant to us because it is made up of the music that we listened to growing up and during the stay at home order. This music is not only meaningful, but it is also inspirational and fun. We selected music that not only expressed what we felt, but we also connected it to our course topics throughout the semester.
This music list is a beautiful, heartfelt compilation. Listen, sing-along, dance, and let the music lift your Corazon.
